BUKIDNON — We’re thrilled to announce remarkable findings by Galansiyang Botanist Nel Omandam! During the first monitoring of the DOST 10-led project, we spotted several Ulayan (Lithocarpus sp.) and Balete (Ficus sp.) seedlings flourishing in the targeted area—nearly 10 months after drone dispersal. These early results are an encouraging indicator of the success of our drone-assisted reforestation.
The project, spearheaded by the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 (DOST 10), aims to leverage cutting-edge technology to restore ecological balance in Bukidnon. The use of drones for seed dispersal has proven to be a game-changer, allowing for efficient and widespread planting in areas that are otherwise difficult to reach.
Nel Omandam, a botanist at Galansiyang, led the monitoring efforts and was delighted to report the thriving growth of Ulayan and Balete seedlings. These species are crucial for the local ecosystem, providing habitat and food for various wildlife. The successful establishment of these seedlings is a testament to the effectiveness of drone-assisted reforestation techniques.
This achievement would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of several key partners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to DOST Bukidnon, LGU Pangantucan, and DENR-PAMB MKaRNP for their unwavering support and trust in our mission. Their commitment to advancing science and technology for ecological forest restoration has been instrumental in this project’s success.
The flourishing seedlings are more than just a sign of successful reforestation; they symbolize hope and progress in our fight against deforestation and environmental degradation. By empowering local communities and utilizing innovative technologies, we are making significant strides towards a sustainable future.
As we continue to monitor and nurture these seedlings, we remain optimistic about the long-term impact of our efforts. The early success of this project serves as an inspiration for future reforestation initiatives, demonstrating that with the right tools and partnerships, we can restore our forests and protect our planet for generations to come.
Thank you once again to all our partners and supporters. Together, we are making a difference, one seedling at a time.
